Teo

Teo begins in Greek. It grows from Teodor, the Polish form of Theodore, built from theos, meaning god, and doron, meaning gift. Together they give what a parent reads on the birth certificate: dar od boga, gift of god.

The longer Teodor has a deep record in the Church, where early saints and at least one pope carried it, and the feminine Teodora keeps the same two roots for a daughter. Teo trims that history to a single bright sound. In a school register it sits between longer names, quick to call across the room.

Nothing about it feels heavy. The Greek root theos still shows up in English words like theology and theism, so the god in the name is easy to trace. Teo can stand on its own now, on an official form at the urząd, yet Teodor waits behind it whenever the full version is wanted. Either way the meaning holds: a gift of god.
