Tycjan

The name Tycjan comes from Latin. It grew from Titianus, an adjective formed on the Roman name Titus, so its plain sense is "of Titus," one who belonged to the household of Titus. Rome loved such names. A clan name became a thing a son could wear, marking the line he came from.

Polish readers often meet the form through painting. Tiziano Vecellio, the Venetian master, is called Tycjan here, and the warm reddish gold he liked for hair survives in the phrase czerwień tycjanowska, Titian red, still printed on boxes of hair dye.
