Alisa

Alisa reaches Polish ears through Russia and Ukraine, where it has long been an everyday name. Its roots run back to Hebrew. In Poland it arrives already familiar, a cousin to names people have known for generations, and it settles in without much fuss.

The dictionary gloss is "noble," szlachetna in Polish. That sense attached to the name later, borrowed from its close relative Alicja, the fuller variant that shares its shape and sound. Alisa kept the meaning and trimmed the syllables.
