Logan

Logan begins in the Celtic tongues of Scotland, where the word lagan named a small hollow in the land, a dip between higher ground. From that came a place, then a surname, then at last a first name. The short meaning stays close to the soil it grew from: little hollow, mała dolina, a low sheltered space rather than a peak.

For a long time Logan belonged to families, not to babies. It traveled as a Scottish clan name and a marker of where a person's people had lived. Only later did parents lift it out of the surname column and set it at the front of the name.

That shift matters. A word for a fold in the ground now sits on a child in a Polish przedszkole register, read aloud at roll call between older, saint-linked names.

Logan carries no diminutive or variant of its own, no softened Polish form waiting in reserve. It arrives whole. What it offers is its plain Celtic sense, unchanged by the crossing from hillside to given name: little hollow, the small green dip where water gathers.
