For the Romans, Laetitia was a personification of gladness, and her figure turned up on imperial coins holding a wreath. The joy here belongs to the origin rather than to a later gloss.
The name reached Polish through Latin, and the ending -tia of Laetitia settled into the -cja that Polish spelling favors. It stays uncommon. On a school register a Letycja usually sits alone, one of a kind in the class.
