Khrystyna

Khrystyna comes from Greek, where the root points to Christ and marks the one who follows him. The short meaning stays plain: chrystusowa, belonging to Christ. This is a Christian name in the older sense, given to daughters across the Byzantine and Slavic east.

In Ukraine the name settled into everyday speech, and Khrystyna became its familiar shape. Polish ears hear a near double in Krystyna, the variant they write on their own forms. The two names share one Greek source, though the spelling shifts as the border does.
