Antoine

The name Antoine grew out of the Roman family name Antonius, a Latin surname carried by patrician clans of the old Republic. Its oldest root stays uncertain, and scholars often trace it back past Latin into Etruscan. There the sense is lost. French speakers reshaped Antonius into Antoine, and that spelling became the standard French form, with no diminutive or variant riding beside it here.

The sense of "priceless, praiseworthy," in Polish bezcenny and wspaniały, came to the name later. Latin gave no such gloss at the start. The association grew when readers linked Antonius to the Greek word anthos, flower, and to the idea of a thing beyond price. So the meaning is a story told about the name, not its birth certificate.

Poland already holds its own heirs of Antonius in Antoni and the everyday Antoś, cognates from the same Latin stock.
