Solomiia
A recent arrival that took off in the early 2020s: after years of a handful of girls, over a hundred now get it each year. Carried almost entirely within Poland's Ukrainian community, it comes from Hebrew for "peace".

What Solomiia means
Where Solomiia comes from and what it has meant to the people who carry it.
Solomiia reaches Ukrainian from much older ground. Its root is the Hebrew word shalom, peace, the same root that stands behind the name of King Solomon. So the short meaning stays plain: peace, peaceful. The name kept that sense as it moved east and settled among Ukrainian families, holding the single full form Solomiia with no diminutive beside it.
Ukraine gave the name a face. Solomiya Krushelnytska, born in Galicia in 1872, became one of the great sopranos of her generation and sang Salome and Madama Butterfly across Europe. Her fame helped fix the form in the region, and the name has stayed close to Ukrainian speech since.
Read from a class register in a Polish school today, Solomiia usually marks a child of a Ukrainian family, a name filled in on the urząd forms of parents who arrived in recent years. It travels light. There is no nickname to soften it and no masculine twin to answer it. The name arrives whole, and it still means what shalom meant at the start: peace.
