Lukrecja

Lukrecja reaches Polish from Latin, from the gens Lucretia and the family cognomen it carried in old Rome. Behind that name sits the word lucrum, profit or gain, which is why the short Polish sense reads zysk, korzyść. The idea of wealth comes from that Latin root rather than from any legend around the name.

Two bearers fixed it in European memory. Lucretia, the Roman matron whose death opens a famous chapter of Livy's history, and Lucrezia Borgia, whose Renaissance name still divides her biographers. Polish took the Latin Lucretia and spelled it Lukrecja.

The name is rare here. On a Polish class register it stands out among the Zuzannas and Julias, a single long word out of Rome. That rarity is part of its appeal. Whatever else it says, Lukrecja keeps its old Latin ledger sense: profit, wealth.
