Krystyn comes from the Latin Christianus, a word that marked a person as belonging to Christ. The Romans built it from the Greek Christos, and the meaning stayed plain across the centuries: a follower of Christ. In Poland the masculine Krystyn has long been the quieter sibling of Krystyna, the feminine form most people recognize first.

For a man named Krystyn, the diminutive Krysia usually belongs to a sister or a mother, so he stays just Krystyn on the register. That formality suits a name rooted in a confession of faith.

The name kept its religious sense long after other Latin names drifted toward decoration. Christianus began as a label for early believers, sometimes given at baptism. Krystyn holds onto that beginning without dressing it up.
