Gracjana

Gracjana traces back to Latin, to the name Gratianus and the words standing behind it, gratus and gratia. Those words meant pleasing, favored, full of grace. So the short meaning, grace and pleasing, sits at the origin itself rather than arriving as a later gloss.

Its closest relative is the masculine variant, Gracjan. Both forms share the same root and differ only in the ending. Each descends through Gratianus, the name carried by a fourth-century Roman emperor, Flavius Gratianus, who ruled the western empire and appears in the Latin chronicles of his day.

In a Polish class register, Gracjana lands among the rarer entries, a few names in a year rather than a crowd. The male form is Gracjan. When it does appear, the Latin gratia is right there inside it, the same word that gives us grace and gratitude, holding both senses of pełna łaski, full of grace.
