Aurelia

The name Aurelia grew from Latin aurum, gold, by way of the adjective aureus, golden. Roman families used it as a clan name, the gens Aurelia, long before it belonged to any single child. Aurelia Cotta, the mother of Julius Caesar, carried it in the first century BC, which makes it one of the older women's names still given today.

Its meaning stayed close to its root. Where many names drift toward a sense they never began with, Aurelia kept the plain reading: golden, in Polish złota. The colour sits in the sound.

The name bends easily. Drop a letter and you have Aurela, a variant that circulates in the same circles. Shift it toward the masculine and you reach Aurelian, the form borne by a third-century Roman emperor. On a Polish class register, an Aurelia rarely shares her page with a second one, and the teacher reads the ending clearly.
