Taisiia

Taisiia reaches Ukrainian from Greek, and its oldest sense points to Isis, the Egyptian goddess whose cult spread across the Hellenistic world. The short meaning, "belonging to Isis," reads now as a memory of that spread rather than any claim a family makes about faith. The name keeps to itself here, with no diminutives or variants recorded. It stands alone.

In Ukrainian use the name travels through the Eastern Christian calendar. There Saint Thaïs of Egypt, a fourth-century penitent honored in October, gives the name a human face. Taisiia is simply the Ukrainian spelling of that older Greek Thaïs, the ii ending marking it as Ukrainian rather than Polish.

On a Polish class register the name would catch the eye at once, four syllables among the Zuzannas and Julias. A teacher might pause over it before the roll. The Greek root holds, though, and behind it the goddess Isis, to whom the name once belonged.
