Pol

Pol is a short form of Paul. Paul descends from the Latin Paulus, a word that meant small or humble. In Roman families it often marked the younger child, the lesser one by birth order. The apostle who wrote as Paulus rather than Saul carried that modest reading with him, and it settled on the name for good.

In Catalan and Spanish households, Pol lives as an everyday name, the familiar form of Pau and Pablo. It reads as small by design. Boys carry it through Catalonia now, on team sheets and in school corridors, worn plainly and without ceremony.

On Slavic ground the name is rarer. A teacher reading a class register might pause at it once, unsure whether to lengthen it. The meaning travels intact all the same. Pol still says small, humble.
