Orifjon

Orifjon belongs to Central Asia, common among Uzbek and Tajik families. It splits cleanly into two parts. The first, Orif, comes from the Arabic arif, meaning one who knows or perceives. The same root gives marifa, the Arabic word for knowledge. The second part, jon, is a Persian word for soul that softened over time into a term of affection, close to how English speakers use dear.

So the name reads as knowing and wise, with a fond one folded onto the end. The suffix jon rarely stands alone. It attaches to names across the Persian-speaking world, warming Orif past the plain adjective it started from.

The name is rare in Poland.

A teacher working down a class register might slow at Orifjon before the roll moves on. Its meaning stays legible once you separate the halves: Orif for the wise one, jon for the dear.
