Juliana
From Latin, the feminine of Julius, tied to that old Roman family line. Fewer than 600 women in Poland carry it, so most people here will never meet one.

What Juliana means
Where Juliana comes from and what it has meant to the people who carry it.
Juliana comes from Latin, the feminine of Julianus, which traces back to the old Roman family name Julius. To Polish ears the meaning stays close to the source: należąca do rodu Juliuszów, one belonging to the Julian line. The short English gloss, "youthful," picks up a sense later readers heard in Julius, though the name began as a marker of family rather than age.
The line has many branches. Julia is its plainest cousin, Julianna its doubled form, and the older Latin spelling Iuliana still surfaces on baptismal records and Roman inscriptions.
One early bearer gives the name its footing: Saint Juliana of Nicomedia, an early Christian martyr venerated in both the Eastern and Western churches. Through her the name entered calendars across Europe.
In a Polish classroom the register still keeps a Julia apart from a Juliana without comment. The longer form shows its Latin root plainly. Read the ending, -ana, and you hear the family it once named.

Juliana appears 1 time in the Polish name day calendar, never as a main name. The first of these dates is 16 February.
