Xuemei comes from Chinese, built from two characters: 雪 (xuě), snow, and 梅 (méi), the plum. Put together they name one winter picture, the plum tree in flower while snow still holds the branches. That is the plain sense of the name, snow plum.
The plum blossom, méihuā, opens in the cold months. The flowers come before the leaves. Chinese poets from the Song dynasty onward praised the tree for blooming against frost. A girl called Xuemei carries that flower in her given name.
The origin here is filed as other, not Slavic and not Latin. In Poland the name reads as clearly Chinese. On a class register in Wrocław it would sit apart from Zofia and Lena.
