Zhassulan comes from the Kazakh steppe, where its parts still speak plainly. The first, zhas, means young. The second, ūlan, names a lad or a guardsman. Together they give what Polish registers record as młody wojownik, a young warrior.
That word ūlan will look familiar in Poland. It shares its Turkic root with ułan, the light cavalryman, both descended from Ottoman Turkish oğlan, a boy or young man. In the Tatar of the Golden Horde the same word could mean a noble warrior and the khan's guardsman. Same source, two destinations.
Kazakhstan has a real Zhas Ulan today. It is a children's and youth organization with more than a million members, and two military boarding schools carry the name, in Almaty and in Astana. So the sense of young warrior is documented, not folk invention. On a form at the urząd, the name stands as Zhassulan, with no short version beside it.
