Xhavit reaches Polish name lists from well outside the Slavic world. It is the Albanian form of a Persian name, jāwid, meaning eternal, immortal. The trail runs back through Middle Persian jāwīd to an Iranian root for age and duration, a root that is cognate with the Greek αἰών, our word "eon".
The meaning stays loyal to that root. Where Katarzyna picked up the sense of "pure" long after its birth, Xhavit still says what jāwid said: eternal, without end. In Albanian spelling the opening "Xh" sounds like the English j, so the word is less foreign than it looks on paper. Cognates spread across a wide map, from Turkish Cavid to Bosnian Džavit and Persian Javid.
Among Albanians the name is ordinary. Xhavit Nimani, a Kosovo politician, carried it until his death in December 2000.
In Poland it is rare. A teacher reading a class register in Kraków might pause once at Xhavit before the next surname. It has no Polish name-day and no Slavic diminutive. What stays is the plain sense of its origin, eternal and immortal.
