Salim

Salim grows from the Semitic root s-l-m, the same three consonants behind Hebrew shalom and Arabic salaam. In its Hebrew origin that root means being whole and unharmed. The meaning is plain. The short sense stays with it: safe, sound, intact.

Though the root is Hebrew, the name belongs above all to the Arabic-speaking world, where boys have carried Salim for many centuries. There it sits close to the everyday word for peace, since both came from the same handful of letters.
