Rusudan reached Poland from Georgia, and the register here marks its origin only as other. The short English gloss is day, and it points back to the Persian word rōz. In Polish the name is read as róża, the rose. The rose came later.
The clearest bearer is Queen Rusudan of Georgia. She was a daughter of Queen Tamar, and she ruled from 1223 to 1245, across the first Mongol campaigns against her kingdom. Her reign fixed the name in Georgian memory, and it has held that place since.
There is a story attached as well. The Rusudaniani is a medieval Georgian prose romance whose heroine carries the name.
