Rosana reaches back to Roxana, an old eastern name that meant bright, or dawn. Latin carried it westward, and along the way the sound drifted close to rosa, the rose. Spanish speakers took to it, and the flower stayed attached.
The rose reading came second. The name began as light. The petals arrived later, once ears heard rosa inside it. Its variants keep that Latin shape: rosanna and rozanna both double the middle consonant.
