Omer

The name Omer comes from Hebrew, where an omer was a measure of harvested grain, a sheaf. In the Torah the word marks a fixed amount, and it gives its name to a Jewish counting practice, Sefirat HaOmer, the counting of the Omer across the forty-nine days from Passover to Shavuot. So the name sits close to the field and the calendar at once.

In Polish the short meaning lands as "miara ziarna," a measure of grain. That association reaches back to farming and to ritual, where a single sheaf stood for a whole season's yield.
