Oktawiusz

Oktawiusz comes from Latin. The Roman family name Octavius grew from octavus, the word for eighth, and it marked a child's place in the numbered order of Roman naming. Gaius Octavius, the man who later took the name Augustus, carried this plainer form before he became the first emperor of Rome.

For a long stretch the meaning stayed literal. A household might count to an eighth child, or fix an eighth place in some line of succession, and the bare number settled into a name. In Polish that meaning is ósmy, countable and exact.

The name has a cross-gender partner. Oktawia is the feminine form, and Octavia was the sister of Augustus, a documented bearer with her own standing in Roman history.
