Polish speakers softened that longer name into Jaga, then Jagna, and Jagienka is the tender diminutive that sits at the end of that line. Aga belongs to the same family. That meaning arrived by inheritance. Agnes goes back to the Greek word for pure, and the sense of purity was attached to Jagienka much later, passed down through its parent forms rather than born in the Slavic sounds themselves.
