Cecylian

Cecylian comes from Latin, from the Roman family name Caecilius. That name traces back to the adjective `caecus`, which means blind. So the short meaning carried by Cecylian is exactly that: blind, `ślepy` in Polish.

The Caecilii were a large plebeian house in Rome, and their name likely marked an ancestor described as blind or dim of sight. Over centuries the harsh literal sense faded. What stayed was the sound and the lineage. Cecylian reads today as the masculine partner to Cecylia, the far more common cross-gender form, and it borrows some of her warmth.
