Dzianis is a Belarusian form of the name Poland writes as Denis. Both go back to the Greek Dionysios, once given to a person dedicated to Dionysus, the old god of wine and the grape harvest. That dedication is the meaning the name still holds.
The route ran eastward. As Dionysios entered Church use and then Slavic speech, its consonants softened, and Denis turned into Dzianis among Belarusian speakers.
