Laxman

Laxman comes from the Sanskrit Lakshmana, built on the root lakṣman, meaning a mark or a sign. Read literally, it means "having auspicious marks", the kind of birth-signs old texts counted as a good omen. Polish renders this as obdarzony pomyślnymi znakami.

The best-known Laxman is Lakshmana, the younger brother of Rama in the Ramayana. He follows Rama into exile and guards him through fourteen forest years. One old strand of the story says he stayed awake the whole time so his brother could rest. His name became a byword for loyalty across South Asia, and boys still receive it today.

The spelling with an x follows one common way of putting the Sanskrit sound into Latin letters. In Poland the name is rare. A registrar at the urząd might pause over it before writing it onto a birth form. What holds under every spelling is the old sense: auspicious marks.
