Ezechiel

Ezechiel comes from the Hebrew name Yechezkel, and it means "god strengthens." The Hebrew joins a verb for strengthening with the name of God, so the whole name reads as a small statement of trust rather than a description of a person. In Polish the sense is `bóg umacnia`, the same claim in three words.

The name belongs first to a prophet. Ezekiel worked in the sixth century BC, among Judeans carried off to Babylon, and the biblical Book of Ezekiel is named for him. That setting matters to the meaning. A man far from home is told that his strength is not his own.

Ezechiel is rare in Poland today. Public name data lists only [19 men](https://oimionach.pl/imie/meskie/ezechiel/) carrying it in 2024, which puts it well outside the ordinary school register. A boy named Ezechiel is usually the only one in his class.

His name-day falls twice, on 10 April and again on 19 August. Whichever imieniny a family keeps, the greeting card still spells out the old promise: god strengthens.
