Epifaniusz

Epifaniusz comes from the Greek Epiphanios, built on epiphaneia, a manifestation or an appearing. The short meaning stays close to that root: manifestation, revelation. Polish renders it as objawienie.

The name found early carriers in the church. Saint Epiphanius of Salamis served as a bishop on Cyprus in the fourth century and wrote long treatises against the heresies of his day. His feast keeps the name on the calendar, and Epifaniusz still appears there as a name-day entry.

It is a heavy name for a Polish register. A boy named Epifaniusz stands out when the teacher reads the class list. Four syllables and Greek to the root, with no diminutive worn smooth by use. No nickname softens it.

The word behind it once described a god or a king showing himself in the open. Epiphaneia named that moment of coming into view. Carried by a child, Epifaniusz keeps that older sense: a revelation, an objawienie.
