The name moved south and east before it reached Polish registers. Chiril is the Romanian and Moldovan form of the name Poland writes as Cyryl. Spelling shifted at each border. The Greek meaning of master held underneath. The same kyrios survives in the prayer Kyrie eleison, "Lord, have mercy."
